At Meadows, you'll start creating on day one. You’ll do more than prepare for the future at Meadows—you’ll shape it in your first year. We challenge each student to develop his or her gifts to the highest level. We challenge students to find their unique voices and to develop the highest level of craftsmanship. While message and craft are the foundations of art, at Meadows we also practice entrepreneurship, outreach and engagement because they make an artist employable and relevant.

Meadows Wind Ensemble
"Fast Track"

Wednesday, October 15 | 7:30 p.m.

The program will open with the World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Joseph Schwantner’s FAST TRACK: Concerto for Percussion and Wind Ensemble, written on commission for the MWE and a consortium of top-tier college and conservatory ensembles, with Meadows Artist-Faculty and Dallas Symphony Orchestra Principal Percussionist George Nickson as soloist.

With Your Eyes Closed

This solo exhibition by art student Anastasiya Shyvilka will be on display in the Jordan Gallery and explores memory, perception, nostalgia and the human condition. Featuring a combination of clay sculpture and oil painting, the display lingers in the realm of the ephemeral and the sensitive. An opening reception will be hosted on Wednesday, November 5 at 6 p.m.

Hiroyuki Hamada

The Pollock Gallery’s newest exhibition features many of Hiroyuki Hamada’s sculptural works executed over the last five years. His work often presents itself to the viewer in seemingly opposing dualities: archaic and futuristic, natural and industrial, austere and inviting. The sculptures are as evocative as they are otherworldly, and yet, it is this seemingly polemic relationship that drives the artist’s practice.

The Hawn Gallery in Hamon Arts Library presents recent works by sculptor, Tulane Assistant Professor of Studio Art, and Meadows alum, Jer'Lisa Devezin (M.F.A. ’19). Jer’Lisa’s work engages research through the lens of her personal experience centering identity, place, Southern culture, nostalgia and socioeconomics.

Roaming Mexico: Laura Wilson

This exhibition will introduce viewers to a more comprehensive if deeply personal vision of our southern neighbor. It brings together over thirty years’ worth of images documenting Wilson’s sojourns across Mexico and areas just beyond its northern border.

Manuel 脕lvarez Bravo: Visions of Mexico

Álvarez Bravo’s photography reflects the complexities of Mexican identity, often juxtaposing the everyday with the enigmatic. The exhibition will feature more than 30 silver gelatin prints spanning from the 1920s to the 1980s.
