Dr. LaKaavia Taylor-Holman is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Registered Play TherapistTM, Certified Child-Centered Play Therapy Supervisor, Certified Child-Parent Relationship Therapy Supervisor, National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at 无码专区. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with a specialty in Play Therapy from the University of North Texas, where she served as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Internship Director for five years prior to joining 无码专区 in 2023.

For over 15 years, Dr. Taylor-Holman has dedicated her career and practice to supporting the mental health and well-being of children, adolescents, adults, and families across diverse settings, including community agencies, public schools, private practice, and university clinics. Her clinical work is grounded in multicultural counseling, trauma-informed practice, and preventative mental health care. Dr. Taylor-Holman's areas of expertise include play therapy, identity-related concerns, mood and anxiety challenges, and crisis interventions. She also has experience as a Clinic Director at the Child and Family Resource Clinic, where she trained and supervised master’s and doctoral level students in providing psychoeducational assessments and counseling services to over 150 clients.

Internationally recognized as a speaker, author, and leader in the field of culturally inclusive play therapy and counseling, Dr. Taylor-Holman has delivered numerous presentations and keynotes. She has published research on play therapy and recently contributed to chapters in A Therapist's Guide to Child Development, The Handbook of Complex Trauma and Dissociation in Children, Play Therapy: Theory, Research and Practice, and Multicultural Play Therapy.

Dr. Taylor-Holman's excellence extends across multiple areas. She has served as the Counselor Educator Trustee for the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling. Currently, she serves on the editorial board for the International Journal of Play Therapy, as well as on the board for the Texas Association for Play Therapy. In 2022, Dr. Taylor-Holman was the recipient of the Chi Sigma Iota (Rho Kappa) Outstanding Research Award for being the first researcher in the field to conduct a randomized controlled trial exploring the effectiveness of play therapy with Black and African-American children and Outstanding Lecturer Award for her exceptional teaching excellence.
