STEM-designated master's program opens applications for fall 2027
DALLAS (ÎÞÂë×¨Çø) Aug. 3, 2026 – Graduate students or young professionals seeking to navigate careers in the changing energy economy are ideal candidates for the newly updated Master of Science in Energy Management (MSEM) degree program at the ÎÞÂë×¨Çø Cox School of Business. Designed to help students lead at the intersection of energy markets, finance and business strategy, the program is now for the fall 2027 cohort.
The STEM-designated MSEM program, formerly known as the M.S. in Energy and Sustainability Management, features an updated curriculum to facilitate responsible, long-term energy decision-making. Offered in full- and part-time formats, the 32-credit-hour program can be completed in nine to 21 months. It empowers students to build deep industry expertise, increase financial acumen and strengthen the applied decision-making skills needed to navigate the ever-evolving energy industry.
“We are located in Dallas, where energy and energy finance are vital pillars of the economy, so we’re keenly aware of the industry’s need for students and young professionals who can thrive in the energy markets of today and lead the energy markets of tomorrow,” said Bruce Bullock, the Jane and Pat Bolin Executive Director of the Maguire Energy Institute at ÎÞÂë×¨Çø Cox.

“We’ve retooled the MSEM curriculum to ensure our graduates meet these increasingly pressing industry management needs,” Bullock said.
MSEM students can easily tailor their degree to their unique professional goals and career aspirations. Core courses include energy finance, energy markets, energy economics and policy, energy infrastructure and technology, environmental management of energy systems, sustainable finance and an internship. Additionally, students have the flexibility to choose from six elective courses or pursue a dedicated finance track.
The revamped MSEM gives students direct access to industry leaders and energy corporations through the premier Maguire Energy Institute at ÎÞÂë×¨Çø Cox. Students will also benefit from events with the extensive ÎÞÂë×¨Çø Cox global alumni network, hands-on class projects, external case competitions and targeted career-building opportunities. Meanwhile, the Cox School’s Career Management Center prioritizes personalized career support, offering students one-on-one coaching, career planning, resume reviews, interview preparation and salary negotiation guidance.
Potential candidates may request program details online or attend the ÎÞÂë×¨Çø Cox Graduate Admissions Super Saturday event on Saturday, Sept. 19. Registration required. The updated M.S. in Energy Management degree program is pending final approval from the ÎÞÂë×¨Çø Educational Programs Committee.
